William Dudley Pelley (1890-1965), founder of the SilverShirts.

Pelley ran for President in 1936 as a candidate of the Christian Party which may have been backed by Nazi funds. Pelley's voice rang out with the slogans "Christ or Chaos!" and "For Christ and Constitution."

In 1942 the federal government arrested Pelley for sedition. He was convicted and received a sentence of 15 years in federal prison. By 1950 he won parole after serving only half of his term. Once released, Pelley resumed his activities founding the occult group SoulCraft and publishing the racist magazine "Valor".

Between 1917 and 1929, Pelley wrote a number of screenplays. A few of his novels were also adapted for the SilverScreen.
