On July 7th, 1919, the Transcontinental Motor Convoy set off from
WashingtonDC under the auspices of the US military. They arrived in
SanFrancisco on September 7th of the same year. Their experiences on the road, particularly those of a young officer named Dwight Eisenhower, spurred the creation of the Interstate
HighwaySystem during President Eisenhower's administration.
