Tornado Bob’s Keno-n-Karaoke, Thursday night, 5:30 PM
Stage Manager: Should I cut her off?
Tornado Bob: Nah, she’s cute. And there’s something about her voice... right pretty.
Girl on Stage: Oh pretty baby, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do... It’s not the way I planned it. Show me how you want it to be – yeah, that’s right honey, I’m gonna be a superstar! Tell me baby, ‘cuz I need to know...
The Girl finishes her song and a couple men at the bar cheer. She wobbles off the stage.
Girl: Mmm... buy me a drink, honey?
Big Billy: Wha’cha want, lil girl?
Girl: ‘nother tequila. You boys sure know how to make a lady feel at home, you know? Didja like my singin’?
Jasper: Liked your dancin’. Why’n’cha come here and show off s’more a those moves.
Girl (finishing the shot): Woohoo! I got losss more where that came from, honey.
Big Billy: Hey, come back here, girl. Who’s the one buyin’ ya drink?
Girl: Relax baby, you c’n all buy me a drink, I don’ mind.
A man pokes his head in the door.
Black: Yeah, she’s here.
Enter Black and Ben
Ben (looks around, eyebrows raised): Should’ve guessed. Let’s get her out of here.
Black: Come on, Angie, it’s time to go.
Angie: Oh hi, Mickey. Where we goin’?
Black: Someplace else.
Angie: But I like it here, s’nice. I made friends, see, like him, and... him. Whass your name again, honey?
Jasper: It’s Jasper.
Angie: Yeah, Jasper, right. Isn’t he sweet?
Ben: Um, yeah. But now it’s time to say goodbye to your new friends and come on with us, okay?
Angie: No. I’m sick a drivin’. I was just singin’ and havin’ a few drinks here, s’all.
Black: I think you’ve been having a few too many drinks lately. Come on, let’s go.
Angie: Or what? You’ll bring out your big gun? Oh, I forgot, you save that for your Miss Cairo.
Black: Would you just shut up about that!?
Big Billy: Are these boys bothering you, sweetcakes?
Angie: Oh, honey, you better not get involved or they’ll shoot you. Thass what they do to you.
Ben: Uh.. no, no shooting going on here today. She’s just, um, it’s a little joke...
Angie (mumbling): Yeah, he’s not so tough without his shovel, is he? To bartender: Gimme one for the road?
Tornado Bob: Here you go, missy, a double. On the house. She downs it. You come back here and sing for us anytime, hear?
Angie: Thanks, thass so sweet. You all been a great audience.
She bursts into tears.
Angie: You all remember me. I’m gonna be a big star.
Exit Angie, with Black and Ben.
