(This cartoon, drawn from the Goldbugs' point of view, shows Grover Cleveland, a pro-business gold standard Democrat, facing off against the hydra of the Silverites with the sword of "sound money policy.")

WilliamJenningsBryan ran on a silverite platform, and pro-Bryan forces hoped that they could create a political revolution to overthrow the evils of the reactionary industrial order. Making silver the backing for money at the ratio of 16 ounces of silver to 1 ounce of gold was their formula.

FrankBaum was for a while a silverite newspaper editor in SouthDakota. He latter moved to LosAngeles which may be a pivotal decision behind the makeup of the current occult landscape.
