WaylanBeulay is much more savvy about the occult than his little brother, particularly "old school" occultism. He knows pretty much everything in the "Global" section of the UA 2ed rulebook. That is: he understands about adepts and the major magical schools. Waylan knows about avatars, and he's aware that avatar "paths" roughly follow the patterns of the Major Arcana in Tarot (a la Last Call)--indeed he might call them "Trumps" rather than "avatars" or "archetypes." He also understands that (contrary to UA canon), these Trumps are all USA specific. Other countries might have the same kind of magic, or it might be different. Who knows? (Who cares?) Waylon probably does not really understand ascension, although he has some suspicions, nor would he know or use the term "Invisible Clergy." But he knows the Trumps are important, and that people fight over them, and that if Bonnie & Clyde ascended as The Lovers, that means something different for America than if, say, Sonny & Cher did.

The Tarot connection means, of course, that there's a spot in the firmament for The Chariot. Maybe some day, Waylan's car will fill that spot. But it's not an easy road. It's no coincidence that so many of America's most famous cars are death cars, just as most who aspire to America's occult kingship end up being sacrificial kings.

The LS6 turned out to be a death car, didn't it? [Bryant]

Did it ever! And we're not done yet... :) [Rob]

Death to its creator. Death to Abaddon. Death to JohnMoses. Aid in the death of LegalTenderCoxey and the American economy. Yeah, definitely a death car. Not what I really intended for Waylan. [Jere]

Waylan also knows a lot about rituals and tilts, and a lot of what he does with cars can be considered tilts of one kind or another: customizing them with wards and hexes and boons; tuning the chakras of the internal combustion engine; tuning them so they can travel the secret highways; or stripping them down so they can travel unseen by the powers that rule the land. In his LosAngeles days, Waylon made quite a name for himself, both for his strange sculpture and for his auto work, in an occult-juiced substrata of the street racing scene. Even today he receives occasional work of an arcane nature from a select community of occult engine enthusiasts. A lot of that work is on motorcycles, actually, tricking out Harleys for a motorcycle gang known as the SuicideKings. They all tamper with their odometers, for instance, so they turn a little faster than they should, paying a tithe of one extra mile to their fallen comrades for every seven miles they ride.

[Rob:] I found this somewhere online. I have no idea now what it means or where it was originally from:

Consider the following analogy. A simple automobile engine produces work. It is a stand-alone system. If it were possible to take the first derivative of this engine, it would reveal three major operating systems within it that are needed to produce the work. First, it would need to have a physical assembly (motor) capable of producing work (the Salt quality or body); second, it would need to have fuel to power the physical assembly (the Sulfur quality or soul); and last it would need to have spark to ignite the fuel that powers the assembly (the Mercury quality or spirit). These three systems work independently of each other but only when they work in conjunction with each other, with each contributing its own special quality toward the whole does the engine produce work. This analogy is an example of the philosophical meaning of the Sulfur, Salt, and Mercury. It also shows the philosophical operations of the three internal 2-dimensional systems of the Ether. Within this Ethereal system, the internal components of the Sulfur, Salt, and Mercury consist of three sets of four elements in which there are three different types of Fire elements, three types of Earth elements, three types of Air elements and three types of Water elements. The alchemists associated these twelve elements with the twelve signs of the Zodiac. The Fire elements are Aries which is of the Sulfur quality, Leo of the Salt quality and Sagittarius of the Mercury or Spirit quality. The Earth elements are Capricorn of the Sulfur quality, Taurus of the Salt quality and Virgo of the Mercury quality. The Air elements are Libra of the Sulfur quality, Aquarius of the Salt quality and Gemini of the Mercury quality. The Water elements are Cancer with the Sulfur quality, Scorpio of the Salt quality and Pisces with the Mercury quality.
