We never really saw Leviathan up close. As near as we can tell, he's a big crocodile, dwelling near the FountainofYouth in Florida. One of his teeth is silver, and one is gold -- an interesting duality in light of later relevations.

BarronCollier had some kind of magical circle of protection around his swamp shack, which kept Leviathan out. When we disturbed that circle, Leviathan got in and we elected to feed the old man to the crocodile.

We suspected Leviathan of being one of TheNephilim (but as Rob notes on the Nephilim page, we were wrong). In fact, he turns out to be one of TheSelenim.

That was an intentional red herring. The Leviathan in the Bible is a giant sea-serpent -- that's what Leviathan the crocodile is named for. Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan, on the other hand, is an "artificial being" created by many men acting collectively. Specifically, it's the collectivity of the state, but it's also a good description of the formation of the Nephilim. So Huey Long and others did refer to the Nephilim as "Leviathans." [Rob]

Apropos of nothing: Neville Drury writes, "Leviathan is regarded as the negative or Qlippothic equivalent of the Tarot image TheHangedMan, which is also ruled by the element of Water."
