The
Lady Corbridge's theories fly in the face of established academic theory, particularly when it comes to xenosociology, anthropology and history. On more than one occasion she has published an article or dissertation which contradicts the University’s most august and brilliant minds, and which have been justly ridiculed as a result. Unfortunately, Rosamund has a knack for leaving Paridon when such incidents occur, only to return months later with primary evidence in support of her claim. With each passing year the University has taken increasing action to limit Rosamund’s research and thereby preserve the scholastic status quo, and each year she has found a way around their constraints and proven her unsettling theories correct. Of late the University has adopted a policy of ignoring the obnoxious adventuress, hoping that their appearance of apathy will quell her competitive fire.
And yet her latest espousal—that Paridon shares a common, pre-Fog history with the barbaric civilizations Beyond—is so revolutionary that the University’s administration has been forced to drop their guise of indifference. Should Rosamund manage to prove her hypothesis as true, the very bedrock of Paridonesian learning will crumble, and simply everything would have to be rethought.
